Travel & Tourism
How large is New Jersey's tourism industry (in dollars) and how many
people does it employ on a full-time and part-time basis?
Travel and tourism is a cornerstone industry for New Jersey’s economy. Tourism
expenditures total $30 billion and contribute more than $19 billion to the state
in terms of Gross State Product. Moreover, the tourism industry directly and
indirectly supports over 400,000 jobs and remains New Jersey’s single largest
employer, with $12.3 billion in wages and salaries generated in 2003.
In addition to promoting New Jersey at numerous international and
domestic travel trade shows, how else does the Office promote the State's sites
and attractions?
Travel and Tourism is vital to the New Jersey economy. New Jersey is therefore
proud to offer several services to those interested in attracting additional
customers. These include marketing assistance, opportunities for networking and
promotion, educational opportunities including access to tourism research, and
the provision of regional tourism councils.
Urban Renewal Programs (UEZ
& Brownfields)
What benefits does a business enjoy if it's located within one of New
Jersey's urban enterprise zones?
New Jersey offers a number of programs to encourage the redevelopment of the
State's urban areas. These include a number of financial benefits for those
companies creating jobs within urban areas, as well as financial assistance for
those taking part in urban redevelopment.
How many urban enterprise zones are there in New Jersey?
New Jersey has 31 Urban Enterprise Zones (36 municipalities) throughout the
state providing significant incentives and benefits to businesses that locate
within the zones.
How old is the UEZ Program and how many Zones have been created since
its inception?
Few programs have proven more enduring and successful than the New Jersey
Commerce & Economic Growth Commission's nationally acclaimed Urban
Enterprise Zone (UEZ) Program. Since 1984, it has been a hallmark for urban
revitalization and a cornerstone for economic growth and development. Due to
this success, the number of Urban Enterprise Zones has expanded from an original
10 in 1984 to the 31 zones in 36 municipalities today.
How much money have UEZ businesses invested into New Jersey's urban
communities and how many jobs have been created?
The program has helped create 59,647 full-time jobs within the zones. This
represents a total private investment estimated at $10.7 billion by these
businesses.
What exactly is Brownfields?
Another successful initiative New Jersey is utilizing in its pursuit of further
urban revitalization is the Brownfields Incentive for Industrial Cleanup.
Created under the Brownfields and Contaminated Site Remediation Act of 1998, the
Brownfields Redevelopment Incentive Program is designed to provide financial
incentives for developers to cleanup and redevelop New Jersey's estimated 10,000
closed municipal landfills and polluted industrial sites.>>more info.
